Illinois Soil Health

Explore the impact of tillage and crop rotations, simulating how changing the number of crops in rotation impacts both average yields and yield stability. Data are avilable for corn in different weather scenarios.

Additional notes

Open source at SchmidtDSE/illinois-crop-overview-viz. For simplicity, number of crops refers to "equivalent crop count" or ECC. This uses the following thresholds derived from averages of rotational complexity index (RCI) observed by number of crops to simplify discussion of different rotations:

Num Crops (ECC) RCI Threshold
1 2.24
2 3.1
3 3.95
4 4.5
5 5.2

More information about rotational complexity index can be found in the RCI paper.
